When I started out as a programmer, there was one book that provided me with great advice no matter what language I was using. That book was The Pragmatic Programmer. If your programmer then I can't recommend the book enough.

As a mind mapping exercise I decided to mind map the main topics from each chapter into something that will let me quickly recall what was in the book and it's key points.
